Discover the World of Pollination at our Annual Pollinator Festival

June 25, 2011

Every year in June, the AHLF joins forces with environmental organizations around the world to host Pollinator Awareness Week.  Nearly 80% of the world’s crop plants require pollination.  When we think of pollination, we think of birds, bees and butterflies.  But beetles, mosquitoes, bats and even flies transfer pollen between seed plants.  This function is vital for plant reproduction.  Without pollinators, humans and ecosystems cannot survive.  Due to biodiversity threats such as land development, pollution and pesticides, we are losing pollinators around the world at an alarming rate.

Our Pollinator Week celebration includes creative crafts and activities for the whole family, live hummingbirds, bees and butterflies, face-painting, ice-cream, movies and interesting presentations designed to deepen our understanding of the issues facing our fragile ecosystem.
