About the World Water Day Festival
In March 2007, the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation hosted its 1st Annual Water
Day Festival in conjunction with International World Water Day festivities held
all over the world. For 3 years in a row the AHLF has hosted this festival –
the ONLY venue in San Diego County to celebrate this important event - designed
to bring awareness to both local and global water issues facing the world today.
The AHLF Water Festival is a fun and educational event where San Diegans of
all ages can learn sustainable practices for the use our limited water resources.
The 2008 Water Festival attracted over 600 visitors from all over southern
California. The event featured a water-themed magic show by "Dr. Wilderness"
and Socrates the Toucan. Standout presentations featuring Dr. Ann Phibian (a
herpetologist from the San Diego Zoo) and a bird show featuring a live owl and
beautiful red-tailed hawk, two native inhabitants of the Agua Hedionda watershed.
On March 21, 2009, AHLF partnered with SEALIFE at LEGOLAND for our 3rd Annual
World Water Day Festival. The event included a wide variety of activities and
exhibits focusing on water conservation while highlighting many of the critical
issues facing the world’s water supply. The bird show was back by popular demand
and several of our new and exciting activities included a tidepool touch tank
and global warming exhibit hosted by the Birch Aquarium.
