Agua's End of the Year Campaign

2019 was a noteworthy year for the Lagoon Foundation and its Discovery Center (DC). We served a record number of students through our Academy of Environmental Stewardship School Program – 8,750 to be exact, across 12 school districts in San Diego County. This was an expansion of 250 students and 3 school districts from the previous year.  Our 4 open air-classrooms that were also completed and outfitted with proper shade structures to enable our teachers to instill the benefits of outdoor learning, during the hotter summer months.

The completion of the expanded classrooms allowed us to increase the guests we served inside the Discovery Center through our exhibits, as well as educate them on the 5 trail segments and open space easements we offer and manage at the Foundation. Did you know we manage trails and open spaces around the lagoon? Research evidence confirms that being nearby nature, including parks, gardens, trails and green spaces, supports human health and wellness and provides a space for physical activity, although most adults and children are still not active enough.

The cost to properly manage these trails and provide a safe pathway with amenities, aesthetic and access is difficult and expensive, yet the need and public want for them is increasingly high. We need your support now more than ever and are asking for funds to help us provide continued access, improvements and maintenance. These easements are an important branch of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation and provide a gathering space for recreation, physical activity and wildlife observation.

Your tax-deductible donation towards our Giving Tuesday and End of the Year Campaign will help the AHLF to continue providing balanced recreational use of our lagoon. And the best part is, there are multiple ways you can contribute.

  • Make a donation of any size. Outlined below you will see the cost of commonly used restoration materials on our trail to act as a giving guide and our online donation portal.

  • Participate in our online auction. Want to receive something for your donation? We have a few items that you can bid upon. The auction closes December 31st.

  • Cannot support monetarily? Join us for a Giveback Day at Veggie Grill in Carlsbad on Giving Tuesday (Tuesday December 3rd)

Giving Guide:

$20 provides one box of Black Trash Bags for our Trail Receptacles (2 month supply)

$60 allows us to purchase 4 bottles of Graffiti Zap (6 month supply)

$85 covers the costs of two green waste depositories at the dump (removal of invasive species on trails)

Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.
