Lagoona Kahuna Team Challenge blends corporate giving with outdoor fun

April 30, 2019

CARLSBAD – They say a little friendly competition is good for business—and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation’s “Lagoona Kahuna Team Challenge” is proving it can also be good for teambuilding and even the environment, too.

The event takes place on Friday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4215 Harrison Street, and lets corporate teams compete against each other in all sorts of games as they clean the Agua Hedionda Lagoon.

“We are gamifying the traditional coastal cleanup, which kicks team-building up a notch,” said Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Executive Director Lisa Rodman. “And of course, that rivalry between companies also makes things really fun.”

The challenge kicks off with a scavenger hunt where teammates must find hidden medallions while cleaning the lagoon beaches. Prizes will go to teams that find the most medallions, collect the most trash, and discover the most interesting piece of trash.

After that, teams will go toe-to-toe in corn hole, giant water volleyball, water-cycle basketball, and relays via paddleboard and kayak.

Teams will stay energized thanks to a steady stream of music and lunch sponsored by Pizza Port Brewing Company, which will also be pouring a special beer made specifically in honor of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Additional event sponsors include Walmart Labs – the event’s title sponsor – plus Ryan Companies and California Water Sports, who is sponsoring the venue.

At the end of the day, the highest-ranked team will win a hand-crafted wooden paddle with its company name inscribed.

“This is a great opportunity to earn some bragging rights and get your name out there as a company that values giving back to the community,” said Rodman, adding that this event is a major fundraiser for the foundation’s educational programs that serve 8,500 students every year.

To participate, companies can buy sponsorship packages that range from $500 to $5,000. Each level includes a set number of event tickets, and some offer promotional opportunities, such as ads in the foundation’s quarterly newsletter.

Tip Top Run Seeking Hero Sponsors for Military Families

February 03, 2017

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation is seeking "hero sponsors" for the Tip Top Run "Leprechaun Dash & Bash" to be held on March 11, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Corporations and/or individuals are asked to consider sponsoring military personnel and their families to take part in the event.

"The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation has always been a proponent of helping our military families," states Lisa Rodman, Chief Executive Officer of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. "Last year, due to our generous hero sponsors, eighty military personnel including individuals and families were able to participate in the run/walk. The event is open to all ages, so that means military families can enjoy the exercise and fun activities together. Our sponsors make it a memorable day for military participants who otherwise might not be able to attend."

The Tip Top Run "Leprechaun Dash & Bash" includes a 5k/10k walk and fun run, lunch from Tip Top Meats, the namesake of the run; T-shirt, swag bag, bib, family fun activities, live music and a beer garden. The event is a celebration of the eradication of Caulerpa taxifolia and raises awareness about the lagoon as one of the area's amazing natural resources. Proceeds from the run will assist the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's educational programs which reach over 7,000 elementary school children throughout the year.

"We are hoping to sponsor even more military this year," Rodman said. "One sponsorship allows 20 military personnel to take part in the run/walk. The benefit of the sponsorship is two-fold because it will also help support our elementary school programs."

To become a sponsor, contact Lisa at lisa@aguahedionda.org or call 760-804-1969.
