Tip Top Run 

Coming up on March 12, 2022. This event celebrates the eradication of Caulerpa taxifolia and helps to raise friends, funds, and awareness about this amazing resource. These unique courses have one of a kind views of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and Pacific Ocean. This is a fun run/walk, but it is not a chip race. A shuttle will be provided to take participants back to their cars at both locations. 

Fun at The Finish - World Water Day

Party after the race! Both runs end at the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center located at 1580 Cannon Road. Join in on the bash and World Water Day Festival from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. This is a free educational family fun event featuring various magical and water related STEAM activities. If you are attending only World Water Day, you must park across the Street on Whitman Way. 

Corporate Group Competition

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation welcomes and encourages corporate groups to participate in Tip Top Run and compete for awards against other similar groups. This year, the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation will be giving out prizes for both the largest and fastest corporate group.

Awards will be given to the top two finishers of both the 5k and 10K as well as the first finisher under 16 in each race.  

Costume Contest

With St. Patrick's Day being right around the corner, wear your green! A prize will be given to the top two costume contest winners (to be voted on by a select group of volunteers) as you cross the finish line.

Finish Line: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation

The crowd favorite, the coastal 5K annually attracts a large crowd and starts at 8:30AM. Registration and start location is at the dead end of Garfield Avenue just north of the entrance to Hubbs Sea Bass Hatchery. Parking is available at Tamarack State Beach located at the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Tamarack for $10 and on surrounding streets. Run on Hubbs Trail along the Agua Hedionda Lagoon looking out for the Garibaldi swimming next to you before making your way south on the sidewalk of Carlsbad Boulevard. Here you will run overlooking both the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and Pacific Ocean. Keep your eyes open for native shorebirds including Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, and Brown Pelicans. Bathrooms and a water station are located at West Park, 2 miles into the race, at the corner of Carlsbad Boulevard and Cannon Road. The remainder of the run will take you along Cannon Road before eventually hitting the finish line at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Discovery Center.

For a more challenging and varied course, join in on the inland 10K at 8:30AM. Registration and start location is at 5780 & 5790 Fleet Street. Parking is available in the office buildings and on the street. This 10K provides a diverse and unique experience with a variety of paved and unpaved sections. Begin the 10K along the Flower Fields and paved trails near LEGOLAND. Soon, you will reach the unpaved Crossings Trail leading down to Macario Creek where one can see the diverse local riparian habitat. The trail then joins a rustic golf cart bridge and path at the bottom of the canyon, and then continues to Veterans Memorial Park via a pedestrian tunnel under Faraday Avenue. Once at Veteran’s Memorial Park, you will make your way up to a high vista with breathtaking views of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and Pacific Ocean. The remainder of the run will take you along Faraday Road before eventually hitting the finish line at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Discovery Center. Bathrooms are available every 2 miles with frequent water stations.

5K: Hubbs trail @ 4300 Garfield Ave - walk down the hill trail (Parking is available at Tamarack State $10 or on surrounding streets). 10K: 5780 & 5790 Fleet Street. (Parking is available in the office buildings and on the street).

How do I get back to my car?

A complimentary shuttle takes you back to the starting points.

Should I run with my wallet?

YES. We have opportunity drawing prizes at the finish line, vendor booths, tortosie packs (food to feed our tortoises) and an excellent gift shop!

Can I bring my dog?

Because a group shuttle takes you back to your starting location, we do not recommend you bring your dog (unless someone were to meet you at the finish line and you did not need the complimentary shuttle).

Is there a packet pick-up?

Yes. Roadrunner Sports, Carlsbad. 4pm - 7pm.

If it is raining, will the event happen?

Yes we are rain or shine.

Will my child be able to come in the beer garden with me at the finish line?

No (ABC rules), but we will have games right next to it which you can both participate in at the same time.

What are the prizes?

Fastest runner from each route; adult and child, largest team and fastest team. Two costume contest winners.

Am I required to go to packet pick-up?

No. You can get your bib at check-in morning of. You can receive your Branded Apparel at the finish line.

Can I register day of?

Yes, you may register morning of beginning at 7:30am.

Are there water stations?

Yes - One at each starting point, one along the 5K route, 2 along the 10K route and one at the finish line.

Are both route stroller friendly?

Yes. The 10K has a few tougher spots, but we have volunteers positioned to assist (one small 3 step stairway)

Are there signs to follow the route?

There are runners with signs positioned throughout and pressing crosswalk buttons to allow more efficient crossing.

Is this a chipped race?

No it is a Fun Run. We do have a timer at the end which aligns when the first set of runners are released.

Do all runners run at once?

No we release in waves of 20. Runners go first, walkers next.

If I want to meet my family at the finish line, can I?

Yes, you will need to park across the street from the Discovery Center on Whitman Way, which is off of Faraday (walk down, approx. 3 minutes). Food is available to purchase for non-runners for $5.


What is World Water Day?

We celebrate World Water Day in conjunction with Tip Top Run. It is the festival at the Finish Line of the Run itself (located at the Discovery Center, 1580 Cannon Road Carlsbad CA 92008). We have fun and intereactive STEAM stations that are water related.

What time is World Water Day?

It is from 9am – Noon

Where do I park for World Water Day?

Across the street from the Discovery Center on Whitman Way, which is off of Faraday (walk down, approx.. 3 minutes).

Is there anything else for me to do at World Water Day?

The Discovery Center exhibits will be open in addition to the World Water Day vendors. The Discovery Center trail will be open to walk on. There will be games such as corn hole to participate in. You caa purchase a meal from Tip Top Meats.

Can I purchase food at World Water Day?

Yes. A $5 meal will be available from Tip Top Meats form the Run.

Does World Water Day cost?

No. But food will be available to purchase as well as opportunity drawing tickets for prizes. Additionally our lagoon treasures gift shop will be open.
