Mingle with Members 2025 ~ Barbie’s Dream Village

Come on Barbie, Let’s Go to Carlsbad Village!

Braving the chilly air and the ever-tricky Carlsbad Village parking, our incredible “village” turned out in full force for Mingle with Members ~ Barbie’s Dream Village on Friday, January 31st, at Witch Creek Winery!

With 133 members and friends in attendance, the evening was nothing short of magical Guests sipped on Witch Creek’s delicious wine, beer, and cocktails while indulging in mouthwatering bites from some of the best restaurants in Carlsbad Village. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream delighted everyone’s sweet tooth with their famous scoops, and our Raptor Interns wowed the crowd by touring our incredible animal ambassador raptors around the venue.

The air was Blooming with Possibilities as we raised $1,400 through our opportunity drawing for the Ultimate Carlsbad Village Basket, generously donated in part by the Carlsbad Village Association. Before heading home, guests struck their best poses in the photo booth, ensuring a picture-perfect end to the evening.

A huge thank you to our members—you are our village, and we couldn’t build this incredible community without you. Special thanks to The Socials for the dreamy decor (and the fun reminder about our upcoming Discovery Gala 2025 ~ Barbie’s Dream Lagoon), Handel’s Ice Cream for treating guests in person, our amazing volunteers, and all the guests who attended with members (some of whom officially joined our “village” that night!). Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Witch Creek Winery for their stunning venue, live music that set the perfect vibe, and the drinks that made it all that much easier to toast to 35 years of the Foundation!

Bright and early on Sunday morning, more than 90 people gathered with binoculars and coffee in hand for a morning of birding, learning, and adventure. Participants of all ages kicked off the day with local birding experts Bobby Brett and Rick Grove, who introduced the basics of birdwatching before leading groups along the Discovery Trail and throughout the Discovery Campus. Along the way, guests spotted native birds, learned fascinating bird facts, and took turns viewing wildlife through high-powered spotting scopes. After a quick coffee refill, attendees gathered on beautiful Newell's Terrace for an unforgettable presentation by Hillary Hankey, founder of Avian Behavior Conservancy. Hillary and her team introduced four incredible avian ambassadors—the Swainson's Hawk, White-faced Owl, King Vulture, and White-necked Raven—giving guests the rare opportunity to see these remarkable birds up close while learning about their behaviors, adaptations, and conservation. The undeniable star of the show was the mischievous White-necked Raven, whose playful antics and impressive tricks had the audience laughing throughout the presentation. Following the program, guests met the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's Raptor Specialists and interns while getting an up-close look at the birds of prey that call the Discovery Campus home. With a hands-on craft station for children, beautiful weather, and a meaningful way to celebrate Father's Day surrounded by nature, Avian Adventure Day was the perfect blend of education, exploration, and family fun.
