Carlsbad Foundation Awards Over $86K In Grants To Local Nonprofits

Since 2008, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation has granted more than $1.3 million to over 70 programs.

CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad Charitable Foundation recently awarded tens of thousands of dollars to local nonprofits.

The foundation, which is an affiliate of San Diego Foundation, awarded $86,482 to seven organizations that provide opportunities to celebrate, enhance and invest in Carlsbad. The grants were awarded during the foundation's annual Grant Awards Celebration June 15 at Full Swing Golf in Carlsbad.

Since 2008, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation has granted more than $1.3 million to over 70 programs.

The 2023-24 grantees include:

  • San Diego Children's Discovery Museum - $17,000 for educational STEM workshops for Carlsbad transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students.
  • Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito - $15,000 for the Big 8 Middle School Sports program that provides several sports program options to three Carlsbad middle schools.
  • Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation - $14,982 for the Academy of Environmental Stewardship, a science- and environmental-based education program for Carlsbad third graders.
  • Kids For Peace - $14,500 for t he Great Kindness Challenge, a kindness curriculum that includes a variety of activities to inspire for people of all ages in Carlsbad.
  • Autism Tree Project - $10,000 for 20 no-cost programs and services for more than 250 children and families impacted by autism living in Carlsbad.
  • Southern California Care Community - $10,000 for case management and mental health appointment screenings, treatment and referrals for uninsured and unhoused Carlsbad residents.
  • Burn Institute - $5,000 for the Fire Safe Kids program at various schools in Carlsbad.

Bright and early on Sunday morning, more than 90 people gathered with binoculars and coffee in hand for a morning of birding, learning, and adventure. Participants of all ages kicked off the day with local birding experts Bobby Brett and Rick Grove, who introduced the basics of birdwatching before leading groups along the Discovery Trail and throughout the Discovery Campus. The undeniable star of the show was the mischievous White-necked Raven, whose playful antics and impressive tricks had the audience laughing throughout the presentation. Following the program, guests met the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's Raptor Specialists and interns while getting an up-close look at the birds of prey that call the Discovery Campus home. With a hands-on craft station for children, beautiful weather, and a meaningful way to celebrate Father's Day surrounded by nature, Avian Adventure Day was the perfect blend of education, exploration, and family fun.
